💼BRIEFING

Top insights and analysis that is moving the needle in the automotive industry

Spanish startup BBM Motorcycles has introduced the Hiro, a modular electric motorcycle built around a 12.96 kWh battery offering up to ~220 km (137 miles) of range. The bike can gain ~100 km (62 miles) of range in just 9 minutes via DC ultra-fast charging and reaches 80% charge in ~15 minutes.

The Hiro platform supports interchangeable styles (street-fighter, café racer, scrambler) and uses bio-composite materials to reduce weight (~200 kg). Price is estimated at about €16,900.

The Hiro addresses two big EV motorcycle challenges — charging speed and design flexibility — making it relevant for audiences interested in innovation in mobility.

Watch-points: It’s still pre-production; actual performance and infrastructure availability (especially ultra-fast motorcycle charging) remain to be seen.

Automakers Nissan Motor Co. and Mercedes-Benz Group AG will close their joint assembly plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico (the “COMPAS” facility) by May 2026. The plant currently builds the Infiniti QX50/QX55 for Nissan and the GLB for Mercedes-Benz.

Nissan indicated this move is part of a broader strategic shift and cost-cutting initiative, following other plant closures in Mexico.

The EU Data Act (Regulation (EU) 2023/2854) will reshape how the automotive industry handles connected-vehicle data. OEMs, fleets, and service providers must provide standardized, machine-readable access to vehicle data and enable sharing with authorized third parties.

The regulation applies from September 12, 2025, bringing new obligations around data governance, access rights, and cybersecurity.

For automakers and mobility service firms, compliance will require rethinking data architecture and access policies and it opens the door for aftermarket and AI-driven analytics solutions.

BMW Group has advanced its collaboration with Solid Power and Samsung SDI to develop sulfide-based solid-state electrolytes for EV batteries. The companies plan to build demonstration vehicles to validate the tech’s performance.

Solid-state batteries promise higher energy density, improved safety, and lighter packs all crucial for next-gen EVs.
